The Commercial Division of the High Court formally bid farewell to its former Judicial Officers who have been transferred and welcomed the ones at a dinner held at Stonehaven Restaurant recently.

Those on transfer from the Division include Hon. Justice Richard Wejuli Wabwire (to the International Crimes Division), Hon. Lady Justice Jeanne Rwakokooko (Family Division), and HW Flavia Nabakooza (Registry of Research, Planning and Development). While Judges; Hon. Justice Thomas Ocaya Ojele Rubanga, Hon. Justice Harriet Grace Magala, Hon. Lady Justice Patricia Asiimwe and Hon. Lady Justice Patricia Mutesi are joining the Division.

Speaking at the dinner, Hon. Justice Stephen Mubiru, the Head of the Division applauded the general court staff for a great improvement in service delivery. "I have not heard any complaints for the past few months; you are so inspired to see the Division succeed, "he said.

Hon. Justice Mubiru appealed to the Judges to embrace a result-oriented approach to public service as they assume duty at their new stations. "Have an impact within the short time you have been called to service, above all motivate staff and have an impact on fellow human beings that lasts for life," he said.

He further remarked that the new judges joining the Commercial Division come as a big relief given the fact that the Court is overwhelmed with a huge workload. In addition to a boosted workforce, he called for devotion and concentration from all court officers.

On her part, Hon. Lady Justice Anne Mugenyi, the Deputy Head of Division, applauded the outgoing judges for their contribution to the Court. She similarly commended HW Nabakooza’s work ethic. "I know where you are going the values of Commercial Division will be instilled, you are such an inspiration and we need to emulate you," she said.

She urged the new Division's Judges to be firm and objective in the execution of their adjudicatory mandate. Timely writing of Judgements/rulings and listening to clients are some of the other virtues needed to make an impact on the Court, she noted.

The new judges expressed gratitude towards the team for the warm welcome, for being approachable and for the teamwork exhibited. They committed to contributing and upholding the Court’s status as a model court.

Similarly, Hon. Justice Wabwire appreciated the gesture and welcomed the news judges to the Division.

The Division's Deputy Registrar, HW Juliet Hatanga, thanked the guests for making time to share the moment of congeniality which she said was also an opportunity for staff to know each other.

In her remarks, HW Flavia Nabakooza, expressed her gratitude for the comfortable environment at the court. Adding that the new judicial officers are set to work at a model Court.

Speaking on behalf of the non-judicial staff, Ms Joan Namukasa, the Court's Office Supervisor appreciated the judges for the parent-like approach toward the staff.
